Who we are and what we do:
Interacting is an organisation that helps people with disabilities thrive, use their voice via the arts and share what meaningful lives they live.
Across Auckland, weekly drama, hip hop and film making classes are held. These classes help create routine for the 132+ people with disabilities who currently attend.
The classes provide opportunities for students to meet new people, make new friends, learn new skills, get out of their comfort zone, build confidence and together collaborate and contribute ideas to building a performance(s).
We also have our Acting 2 Advocate (A2A) group of drama students who have created skits based on real life experiences. The group travel to organisations and schools to perform these skits and hold workshops to teach others about their rights and how to stand up for themselves in certain situations.
Interacting holds the annual Disability Arts Festival called Interact!
This 3 day event celebrates people with disabilities and what they can do. The festival provides a platform for performance (anything ranging from dance, kapa haka, drama skits to circus acts, mime, singing and poetry reading!), performance, arts and crafts workshops, a wearable arts parade, an art exhibition and a mini market. There's something for everyone to enjoy, take part in, support and help lower stigma.
Please support us by buying an entertainment book. This would help us continue to deliver the classes and programmes we run and hold the annual festival for 3000 people to enjoy.
