The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust - Ranui

Ranui keeps families together because we know when families are together, they heal faster. Ranui is a home-away-from-home for patients and families who need to travel to Christchurch for what is often life-saving medical treatment. Owned and operated by the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust, Ranui provides 80 apartments across its Ranui House and Ranui Apartments complexes. Both are just minutes from Christchurch Hospital, opposite beautiful Hagley Park. Our apartments have been designed for the families we serve. They feature comfy beds, ample living spaces - including a kitchen and laundry just like at home - along with an onsite carpark and generous communal spaces. By taking care of the practical things, we give patients and their families the time and space they need to focus on their treatment.  

Ranui is the largest provider of patient accommodation in the South Island and the only provider that supports patients and families of any age and any treatment type. Whether you’re an inpatient or outpatient, you can stay at Ranui for as long as you need. As a charitable trust, Ranui exists thanks to the generous support of our community. It is that support that enabled us to open New Zealand’s first Bone Marrow Cancer Unit at Christchurch Hospital in 1991, to build Ranui House in 1993, and to open Ranui Apartments in 2024. Ranui means ‘big warm house’ and that is exactly what we provide. A welcoming place of respite and care, which the families we serve call home.
